DTP - Deliver Taxes Paid

Make sure your customers don't face unexpected customs fees

Navigating international commerce can be tricky, especially when customers purchasing goods from abroad encounter customs import fees.

These fees can lead to delays, added complications, and unanticipated charges, which may make customers hesitant about future international purchases.

To ensure customer satisfaction, it's crucial to communicate clearly about any potential customs charges that could arise.

Customs fees now apply for UK-EU shipments

Following new customs regulations after Brexit, many customers in the UK and EU are encountering unexpected customs bills.

This situation arises because all goods exchanged between the UK and the EU now require customs clearance. While there are zero tariffs on goods imported to the EU from the UK, VAT is still applicable at a rate determined by the importing country.

Typically, international parcel delivery services operate on a Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis, meaning that the recipient - the customer - must cover any customs taxes and duties when they receive their goods.

Why choose a DTP service?

Opting for a Delivered Taxes Paid (DTP) service, also referred to as Delivered Duty Paid (DDP), means that any customs charges will be billed to the shipper instead of the receiver. This offers several advantages:

  • Faster delivery - you can avoid delays caused by waiting for customers to settle taxes at the destination.
  • Lower cost - the shipping and administrative fees are often less than those associated with the DDU (duties unpaid) service.
  • A better experience for your customers - they won't face unexpected taxes & admin charges.

While carriers will impose an admin fee for all DTP shipments, it often proves to be the more convenient and hassle-free choice.

How do I book a DTP service?

For most of our services to EU countries, DTP is an option available during the booking process.

For certain services, particularly those shipping outside the EU, you may need to submit an application first, as a credit check will be required.
